Just rapping like such complex lyric structures are easy to create. But again, the story telling is amazing and very funny. Only die hard Em fans will know of this song that’s how much under the radar it is. The rhyme scheme is mad, it tells an interesting story and everything just flows perfectly, this song is a masterpiece. It was on his mixtape before his first album. How he planned those verses and how the hook and chorus flows in is pure perfection. This is an extremely popular song but legendary nonetheless, it won a fucking Oscar for crying out loud. It’s another song that isn’t among his most popular but it’s simply amazing to me. You could feel his anger and that’s em at his best. What Em does best, pure fiery emotion on a cold beat. It was the last song on it and boy! is this song amazing. This is another song which might probably be under the radar a bit because it appeared on the unpopular re-up compilation album. Rare to see Em being a genuine calm good guy in his songs and he does it extremely well here. It was so smooth and so meaningful and revealing. Learnt the lyrics to the song immediately. I was addicted to this song when it came out. That beat drop is mind blowing and that famous second verse where he lists his top rappers? mad. As soon as this song comes on you find extra energy and adrenaline. It was like a holy grail, i felt like “ how on earth am I now hearing this?” its so energetic and the lyrics are so amazingly structured. This is a song I heard during one of my high school vacations. He was so honest in this song and every word is easily understood. This is an amazing song which is popular and rightly so. It just has it all, flow, lyrics, content, amazing verses, what’s not to like about this song. Many people may have not heard this song because it isn’t one of his most popular songs. “ My bitch mom trying to sue me for 10 million, must want a dollar for every pill i’ve been stealing.“. Also some funny lines that still make me chuckle to this day. The honesty is so refreshing & the lyricism is mad.
This song is perfect, i mean to name a song after yourself it should be good right? He spits pure truth in all his verses. I didn’t hear this until after Em released encore shockingly enough. This was one song that slipped under my radar. “ I’m so sick and tired of being admired that i wish that i could die or get fired” You can literally feel his anger in his tone. This was released at a time that the record label wanted the “next big hit” after “My Name Is” and boy did he respond. The beat is incredible, the subject matter pierces through. The way each verse progresses with the intensity of the story is epic. This song may have been overplayed to the point that its replay value isn’t as high as it used to be but that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that this song is legendary. It’s a song for dark times & his honesty here is super refreshing. We’ve all reached that point where we’re tired of so many messed up things in our lives and this song takes us into Em’s frustrated moments in the early stages of his career. Eminem hasn’t made a song like this ever since. He raps from a point of frustration but in such a calm manner that one may think that he’s joking. This song is so raw, honest and the beat so simple yet powerful. This is probably in my top 3 Em songs of all time.
To cut things short, this is a top 10 of my personal favourite Eminem songs. The person who occupies that position switched throughout my many years of listening to music. Second place has never been close for me. I’ve never mentioned it on this blog but Eminem is my favourite artist of all time.
